Recent Major Investments

In 2006 and 2007, GM invested $114 in Bedford Powertrain to produce transmission cases and converter housings for GM’s growing family of fuel-efficient, six speed transmissions. These are the same transmissions that go into the Chevrolet Corvette, Cadillac XLR, and new production vehicles such as the all new Chevy Malibu and Buick Enclave.

GM Powertrain Bedford, one of the world’s largest aluminum die casting facilities, currently manufactures NorthStar engine blocks, four-speed transmissions and fuel efficient six-speed transmissions. GM, in April of 2010, invested $111 million to add a semi-permanent mold cylinder head casting line for small block engines. This investment includes expansion of newer precision sand casting technology that results in a high degree of dimensional accuracy and material strength properties needed to support the newer, more efficient engines in GM’s product portfolio.
