Recent Major Investments

In 2007 and 2006 GM invested $47.5 million to install a new flex line, AA5x press, GMT900 fender inner assembly cells, tie bar assembly cell and white light measurement system.

As a result of the stamping consolidation, GM’s Marion Metal Center is realizing significant capital expansion. General Motors announced in October 2009, that it is investing approximately $364 million in the Marion Stamping facility including die transfers, press transfers, press upgrades and weld transfers.

Description
Marion Metal Center was built in 1955 as an automotive stamping facility by Fisher Body. During the General Motors reorganization in 1984, the plant was assigned to Chevrolet-Pontiac-GM of Canada Group. In 1992, it was realigned with GM's Cadillac/Luxury Car Division. The plant became part of the GM Metal Fabricating Division when it was formed in 1994 and is now part of GM Manufacturing Stamping. Marion Stamping Center is located off Interstate 69 at exit 64 and approximately 42 miles south of Fort Wayne and 64 miles north of Indianapolis. The parts manufactured in Marion are shipped to GM’s assembly plants in; Pontiac, Flint, Lansing Grand River, Lansing Delta Township, Detroit Hamtramck and Orion, MI, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, IN, Shreveport, LA, Dayton and Mansfield, OH, Wentzville, MO, Fairfax, KS, Springhill, TN, Arlington, TX, Oshawa, Canada and Silao, Mexico.
